April 8 marks the second year birthday of Lumi. I can hardly believe that two years ago today, the idea for Lumi came to me as I was walking through Whole Foods in Charlottesville, VA. In less than 6 months, my idea became a reality, manifested itself into a fully integrated manufacturing facility, and was on the Charlottesville Whole Food’s shelf right next to the competition that inspired me.
Today, Lumi’s products can be found in over 27 states, and we have sold almost a million dollars worth of juice.
How did we make it two years? I’m not quite sure. All I know is that faith in an idea has the genius of transforming the seemingly impossible into reality. Once I was overcome by the conviction that I wanted to start a HPP juice company, there was no slowing down until it is was accomplished, and there will be no stopping until all the elements are in place to keep Lumi going for generations.
As I write this, I am sitting in the Lumi facility. There are so many emotions that I feel, stories that I want to share, goals that I want to set, and people that I want to thank.
Instead, all I can hear is the undulating sound of 87,000 psi of water pressure traveling through the 35,000 pound High Pressure Processing machine calling me back to work.
I will save The Juicy Details for another day. (#LeanIn ain’t got nothing on #CrushIt).
As a piece of advice for all of you out there thinking of starting your own thing, changing jobs, or taking a leap into the unknown, remember to have faith in your ideas, surround yourself with awesome people, eradicate the toxic ones, and operate with the notion that failure is never an option.
Thank you to our employees, investors, friends, family, consumers – without you, Lumi would only be a cute, little acronym.
Cheers to making it at least two more!!
Love yoU, Mean It!
Xoxo,
Hillary Lewis
