About a month ago - coincidentally around the time for New Year Resolutions - I made a commitment to myself to improve my overall health. This time, it was not going to be about eating the cookie tonight and starting my diet tomorrow. I was determined. My objectives were not to “get skinny” or to “lose 15 pounds,” but to “feel better” and “have more energy.” 

Luckily, I also started working with Lumi around this same time. Lumi’s goal is to help people live healthier lives through real food, and I was inspired by our mission! This gave me the final push I needed to take control of my health. I set out to start living the Lumi Lifestyle!

For me, it was helpful to find a program that could provide some structure and rules to help me form new habits. One of my friends suggested that I look into the Whole30, a program that focuses on eating real food. The Whole30 is not a fad diet geared toward massive weight loss, but rather a regimen for encouraging long-term health. The rules are simple: you can only eat whole, real foods. This includes meats, seafood, eggs, fruits and vegetables, and nuts and seeds. They recommend foods with few, pronounceable ingredients. Doesn’t sound too bad, right? It gets a little harder – you have to avoid all added sugars, alcohol, grains, legumes, and dairy.

Before you say, “I could never!”

Stop yourself - you can do anything, specifically for 30 days!

The authors of the Whole30 claim that 30 days is all it takes to change your habits and your life. Sticking to this program is akin to “pushing the reset button” for your metabolism and digestive system. By taking 30 days to remove unhealthy, disruptive foods from your diet, you are able to understand how your eating habits effect you. Remember that my primary motivation was improving my overall health, but weight loss has been an added bonus ;) 

Today is Day 22 of my Whole30 and I feel awesome! I have so much more energy, I feel more confident, and overall I am happier. It hasn’t been very hard for me to stick to the program – most days. Once, I passed up birthday cake. That was hard. But it has all been worth it!

It’s been incredibly helpful for me to be stocked up on Lumi. Our juices have no added sugars. The only ingredients are organic fruits and vegetables – the way nature intended. The juices make it easy for me to load up on nutrients, especially when I’m on the go. Futhermore, I’ve been encouraged to keep up the Lumi Lifestyle. I find time to exercise, drink more water, and take care of myself. I’ve never felt better!
